Taipei's Qing-era city walls were completed in 1884, after construction began in 1882. The walls joined a landscape with older communities and trading districts. Surviving gates help visitors understand the city's later development.

Bus queues and road traffic can extend the journey. Check return departures before lingering after dark, along with heavy-rain notices and the theatre’s opening day.

Jiufen has steep stairs, narrow crowded lanes and slippery paving in rain. Bus 965 has selected accessible journeys requiring advance contact; this does not remove barriers within the old town.
Follow the Tamsui riverfront into an old street known for pastries, a-gei and harbour-town atmosphere.

This former trading wharf has become a social waterfront with sunset views and container food stalls. The ordinary gathering is informal; festivals and performances need their own date check.

Our tip: arrive about 30 minutes before sunset. Taipei's venue listing shows 16:00–22:00 weekdays and 12:00–22:00 weekends; individual vendors may differ.

Getting there
Taipei's official audio guide suggests Shuanglian MRT, then following Minsheng West Road toward its river end. Beimen and Daqiaotou are also listed nearby; choose the approach that suits your pace.

Taipei lists wheelchair access, accessible parking and toilets. These do not guarantee access to container-roof seating; choose ground-level space and watch for cycling traffic.
