Spend a slow mountain-town day in Jiufen’s snack lanes, tea houses and old cinema setting.
MRT to Ximen → Taiwan Tourist Shuttle bus 965 toward Jinguashi → Jiufen Old Street; check the boarding stop and return direction.
Bus queues and road traffic can extend the journey. Check return departures before lingering after dark, along with heavy-rain notices and the theatre’s opening day.
Jiufen has steep stairs, narrow crowded lanes and slippery paving in rain. Bus 965 has selected accessible journeys requiring advance contact; this does not remove barriers within the old town.
Follow the Tamsui riverfront into an old street known for pastries, a-gei and harbour-town atmosphere.
Taipei Main Station → Tamsui-Xinyi Line, on a train bound for Tamsui → Tamsui Station → riverside and old street.
Check the train destination because some red-line services turn back earlier. Shops keep their own hours; choose a shorter waterfront visit in strong wind, heat or rain.
The riverside gives options for a shorter outing, but crowds and mixed surfaces remain. Check station lifts, the exact promenade route and restaurant thresholds; riverboats need separate boarding checks.
