Munich Tourism gives about 30 minutes by S6 from Hauptbahnhof to Starnberg. Build the day around a small lakeside outing and lunch, leaving any boat trip optional. Choose Starnberg station for the waterfront, and check current works before setting off. Check station exits and lakeside paths against your access needs.
Tegernsee: lake time without a mountain commitment
BRB’s RB57 links Munich with Tegernsee through Holzkirchen and Schaftlach. Check the destination on your train section and current replacement-bus notices. Choose time in the town and beside the lake; a mountain hike is a separate decision needing its own preparation. Give yourself a full day if you want an unhurried lunch and a generous return buffer.
Augsburg: choose streets before booking interiors
Take a suitable regional connection toward Augsburg and plan the onward walk or tram separately. Explore one part of the old town. The city announces Rathaus and Golden Hall reopening for 28 September 2026. Before that date, do not make an interior visit the anchor; afterward, confirm the reopening and hours.
Herrenchiemsee: a full day with several connections
Travel by train to Prien am Chiemsee, continue to Prien/Stock pier, take a boat to Herreninsel and allow time to reach the palace. The small Chiemsee train is seasonal. Palace state rooms require a guided tour; book a time that leaves room for the entire transfer. Check boat notices and the last return, including boarding arrangements if you need assistance.
Compare the ticket against the actual journey
The Bayern-Ticket has weekday start-time restrictions and excludes ICE/IC trains. A cheap regional ticket and a faster long-distance departure are not interchangeable. Compare the fare for your date and party, and account separately for attraction admission and any boat travel. Do not assume one pass covers every connection.
