|---|---|---|
| Sarria → Santiago | 5–6 walking days, plus travel and rest | Repeated hills and long days. Shared accommodation can reduce costs. |
| Portuguese Way | Depends on your starting town | Compare the inland and coastal itineraries before choosing distances and accommodation. Explore official routes. |
| Santiago city stay + a short walk | Your choice of days | Stay in one base and choose a manageable section. Short walks do not by themselves meet Compostela distance requirements. |

Official public hostel informationThe six-stage option still includes a 25.1 km day. Choose intermediate stops, allow rest days and test a loaded day walk before fixing your itinerary. A shorter day is a valid way to enjoy the Camino.
This route is not verified as continuously step-free. Ask about gradients, surfaces, accessible bathrooms and transport. Confirm a step-free entrance at Portomarín and suitable accommodation for every night.

The Compostela has religious requirements as well as route and distance conditions. The current Pilgrim’s Office rules include at least 100 continuous kilometres on a recognized walking route, with the final stage entering Santiago, or 200 km by bicycle. For the minimum-distance journey, obtain dated credential stamps at the start and end of each stage. Exceptions and alternative starting arrangements require checking the official rules.

The approach crosses the Miño reservoir. The traditional entrance includes stairs; arrange an alternative if needed.
Pause before the next woodland section. Splitting the onward walk at Melide makes two shorter days.
Look for the medieval bridge at Furelos on the approach. Leave time for the historic centre.
A cheese-making town and a useful overnight stop, with shops and services.
Also associated with Arca in O Pino. Check your accommodation’s exact location before booking.
Finish at the cathedral, then leave a separate day to enjoy the city without a walking deadline.
Make the cathedral your arrival point, then slow down. Plan visits and services through the cathedral’s current schedule and use the city visitor guide for neighbourhoods, food and events.
